Although Nuance Counselling would always advocate seeking support during times of difficulty or distress, we recognise that it may take longer than anticipated to access appropriate help: referrals from GPs may be delayed and waiting lists may be disappointingly lengthy.  The ‘survival guides’ below are not, therefore, intended to be a substitute for counselling but rather provide some practical suggestions to help sustain you through periods of vulnerability.

Alcoholics Anonymous

For those suffering from alcohol addiction, AA offers support and tried and tested approaches to help individuals with rehabilitation.

Beaumont Society

The Beaumont Society focusses on issues facing the transgender community.

Campaign against living miserably (CALM)

Calm provides support 365 days a year for men experiencing suicidal feelings.

Cruse Bereavement Care

Cruse provides emotional support for those experiencing loss or bereavement.

Mind

Mind provides support for anyone experiencing mental health difficulties.

National Domestic Abuse Helpline

A resource and source of help and advice for those experiencing domestic abuse at first hand.

Oxford Nightline

Nightline provides a confidential listening service which is run by students for students at Oxford and Oxford Brookes Universities.  It operates from 20:00 to 08:00, 7 days each week during term time.

Oxfordshire Sexual Abuse and Rape Crisis

Rape Crisis has been offering support for over 40 years to women who have suffered sexual abuse or suffered rape.

Petals

Petals is a counselling service for those affected by trauma and loss during pregnancy and birth including stillbirth, neonatal death, fetal abnormalities and postnatal depression.

Samaritans

The Samaritans provide confidential support 24 hours a day for anyone experiencing crisis or who may be contemplating suicide.

Switchboard

Members of the LGBT+ community can seek understanding and specialist advice from Switchboard.

Victim Support

For those directly affected by crime, Victim Support offers confidential support service to help individuals move on from the trauma they have experienced.
